Simplyrecipes Features @frankflavor’s Simple Beef Krapow
This week, simplyrecipes shared an accessible recipe for Thai Basil Beef, also known as Beef Krapow, designed to serve 2 to 4 people. The dish relies on common pantry staples and fresh ingredients for a quick weeknight meal.
The instructions begin by heating 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over high heat for one minute. Next, add 2 finely diced shallots and 6 minced garlic cloves, tossing for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
Ground Beef Preparation:
One pound of 80/20 ground beef is added to the skillet and broken up with a spatula, stirring occasionally until browned, which takes approximately 6 minutes. The seasoning mixture follows, including 2 tablespoons of fish sauce, 1 tablespoon each of dark/regular soy sauce and oyster sauce, and 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar. These are stirred until fully combined.
The final flavor infusion involves tossing in 3 sprigs of fresh Thai basil leaves and 2 thinly sliced Thai chilies, stir-frying for 30 seconds. The beef mixture can be served over 2 cups of cooked Thai jasmine rice.
For an optional addition, simplyrecipes suggests topping the dish with fried eggs. If opting for eggs, residual grease is left in the pan, and the heat is adjusted to medium. Eggs are fried until the edges are crispy and whites are set, ensuring the yolks remain liquid before topping the beef stir-fry.
