Classic Orange Syrup Semolina Dessert Recipe
Chef Ferhat Bora from Yemek.com presents a delightful Orange Syrup Semolina Dessert, perfect for showcasing the abundance of oranges during their peak season. This classic dessert benefits from the even heat distribution of Vestel Built-in Ovens, ensuring a perfectly risen and consistently textured cake every time.
Ingredients:
For the Syrup:
2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups water
1 cup orange juice
1/2 lemon juice
For the Cake:
4 eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
Zest of 2 oranges
Juice of 2 oranges
1 cup sunflower oil
1/2 cup yogurt
1 packet baking powder
1 packet vanilla
1 cup semolina
2 cups all-purpose flour
For Garnish:
Dried oranges
Pistachios
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar. Stir over medium heat until boiling. Add orange juice and lemon juice, then remove from heat. For a smoother result, strain the syrup and let it cool to room temperature.
2. Prepare the Cake Batter: In a bowl, whisk eggs and sugar until the sugar dissolves.
3. Preheat Oven: Preheat your Vestel Built-in Oven to 180°C (356°F) using the top and bottom fan setting.
4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Add oil, yogurt, orange juice, and orange zest to the egg mixture and whisk. Finally, add the dry ingredients (baking powder, vanilla, semolina, and flour) and whisk for another 1-2 minutes. Unlike traditional cakes, mixing the dry ingredients longer in this recipe helps the cake maintain its structure when combined with the syrup.
5. Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into a greased 30×30 cm (12×12 inch) baking pan or a medium-sized oven dish. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 45 minutes, or until golden brown. You can test for doneness with a toothpick.
6. Syrup Application: Once the cake is out of the oven, let it cool for 2-3 minutes. Slice the cake and pour the room-temperature syrup over it.
7. Rest and Serve: Allow the dessert to rest at room temperature for 2-3 hours to absorb the syrup. For best results, refrigerate for at least another 2 hours. Serve garnished with dried orange slices and pistachios. Whipped cream can also be added.
Enjoy this classic, yet always special, sweet treat!
